Love Them Anyway

Updated: Jul 9, 2022

There are those people who are hard to love, then there are those you just can't love, right?

How can you love someone who makes it their mission to make you miserable?

Sometimes we think it is impossible to love certain people. The backstabbers, the goody-goodies, the (insert type of person here), and so on. Those people are just unlovable. That's not true, however. We know this as Christians, even if it is DEEP down. We know that it is our Christianly duty to love everyone. Love they neighbor, right? God wasn't just talking about our physical neighbor. He called us to love everyone and share His love with others.

Sometimes we need a little help, but loving those who have hurt us is possible. God has plenty of love to go around, so we can rest assured that if we pull from Him, we can love anyone and everyone. Jesus was a prime example of this. He loved everyone, no matter their attitudes toward him.

Sealed with a kiss.

When I see someone who I have a hard time showing love to, I often think back to Jesus and how he had every right to hate Judas Iscariot. He knew Judas would betray him, but he kissed him in Gethsemane anyway. He loved him despite the back stabbing that lead to his death. I think, If he can love someone who had a hand in his death, I can surely love someone who is annoying me or someone who has hurt me in some way.

Fine line between love and life

I know, I know. That saying is a bit off from the norm. The usual is there is a fine line between love and hate. I agree, but in this case there is an even finer line between love and life. Those people we have a hard time loving probably have a harder time living. Often, people hurt others to make themselves feel better. To give them purpose. To help them take their thoughts off the fact there is something missing in their lives.

More times than not, there is something missing. Usually, the people hardest to love are the ones who need it most. They need Jesus, and sometimes we are the closest thing they have. We need to show others Jesus and His love by demonstrating with our own--no matter how hard. Rather than saying, I could never love someone like that, recognize the struggle they may be facing without God and love them through it.
